Kwa-Thema-born leader gets elected president of African National Council of Bishops Africa

Kwa-Thema’s Archbishop-Elect Mphuthi appointed to head African National Council of Bishops.

Kwa-Thema: Archbishop-elect Dumisani Mphuthi has been elected president of the African National Council of Bishops Africa (ANCOB Africa).

Mphuthi was born in Kwa-Thema in February 1982 and was raised in the Return of Christ Church under the firm and godly hand of the late Reverend Samuel Jiyane.

“That is where my spiritual foundation was nurtured. I served in the ministry until early 2001, when I pursued my university studies,” he explained.

He started school at Tsimong Primary School, where in 1993, during a Student Christian Movement service, he had a life-changing encounter with the Lord and accepted Christ as his saviour while in Standard Four (Grade Six).

“A few weeks after that encounter, I boldly began preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ,” he added.

He then completed his secondary education at Lefa-Ifa Secondary School.

“While at university in 2001, I started a prayer fellowship in my residence that grew into a vibrant ministry, one that continues to bear fruit today. It produced numerous pastors and pastors’ wives who are active in ministry,” he said.

In July 2001, he joined Well of Life Ministries and, after faithfully serving, was ordained as a pastor in November 2003. He was entrusted with leading several branches and served diligently in various church structures. In December 2009, he married his wife, Pastor Zanele Mphuthi (née Dludlu).

They have been blessed with two sons, who are a joy and testimony of God’s faithfulness. In March 2010, the couple founded a new ministry in Ncala Section, Katlehong. Later that year, in August 2010, the name Moments of Grace Family Church was revealed to him through a divine vision.

“The church was officially launched by my spiritual father, the late Bishop Buyisile Goodwill Khumalo, who played a pivotal role,” he said.

During the Passover of 2015, he was elevated to the office of apostle at Moments of Grace Family Church, affirming the calling and anointing upon his life.

In December 2022, Bishop Mthuthuzeli Vena, president of the African National Council of Bishops, consecrated him to the office of bishop in Kwa-Thema.

His unwavering commitment and servant leadership led to his appointment as secretary general of ANCOB South Africa in March 2024.

In August 2025, during the annual Bishops’ Conference in Umtata, Eastern Cape, he was elected as president. He is scheduled to be elevated to the office of archbishop in November 2025 at a consecration service in Queenstown, Eastern Cape.

As a visionary leader, teacher, and father in the faith, Mphuthi continues to serve the Kingdom of God with humility, wisdom, and an unyielding passion for souls. His life is a living testimony of grace in motion – a man anointed for such a time as this.
