Qedusizi Primary hosts successful orientation to prepare learners for next phase

Qedusizi Primary School hosted its annual orientation for Grade Three and Four learners and parents, preparing them for the academic and curriculum changes that come with the new phase

Kwa-Thema – Qedusizi Primary School held a Grade Three and Four orientation day on November 14. The school’s orientation takes place every year in the last term to prepare learners and parents in Grade Three for what lies ahead in the next grade.

Educators for these grades explain the challenges learners experience with phase changes.

“The SGB and school management team provided support on curriculum policies and legislative framework.

“The key information that we wanted the learners to grasp is the change in curriculum delivery approach, change in workload and differentiated approach to different subjects, time management, textbook loans and retrieval processes.

“The responsibilities of the learners and parents towards the care of textbooks,” explained school principal George Ngoma.

Part of the orientation was to inform parents about the different programmes available to learners from Grade Four.

The school has been introduced to the Learning and Reading Improvement Programme available in grades four, five and seven.

“This programme is aimed at providing support for learners who are battling with English as a first additional language and improving their performance in language and reading.

“The program also supports learners to improve in mathematics. Another programme that the school has introduced is Mother Tongue Bilingual-Based Education.

“It uses learners’ home language for learning of subjects like mathematics, natural sciences and technology in Grade Four.”
