SANCO Ward 85’s Back-to-School Campaign boosts learner confidence in Tsakani

A Back-to-School Campaign by SANCO Ward 85 has brought renewed confidence to learners from three Tsakani primary schools after nine pairs of school shoes were donated to support disadvantaged pupils.

Tsakani – Access to basic school necessities plays a critical role in restoring dignity and improving confidence among learners, especially those from disadvantaged communities.

Recognising this need, SANCO Ward 85 recently launched a Back-to-School Campaign to support learners who face daily challenges in accessing proper school footwear.

“During the first week of January, SANCO Ward 85 approached an owner of a cellphone repair shop based in Malandela, to request support for the campaign through the donation of school shoes.

“The owner responded positively and generously donated nine pairs of school shoes,” said Lucas Komane, the chairperson of SANCO Ward 85.

Following this contribution, SANCO Ward 85 identified three local schools to benefit from the donation, namely Khombindlela, Letsie, and Nchabeleng Primary School.

“Each school received three pairs of school shoes. To ensure the shoes were suitable for the learners, teachers assisted by providing the correct shoe sizes ahead of the handover,” he said.

The donation was officially presented at the schools, with school management and School Governing Body (SGB) members present.

“Many of the learners who benefited from the campaign walk long distances from their homes to school and back, often wearing worn-out shoes.

“In some cases, learners had experienced bullying and teasing due to their condition, which affected their confidence and school experience,” added Komane.

Komane mentioned that the impact of the donation was immediately visible. He stated that learners who received the shoes showed increased confidence and self-esteem, and they expressed their gratitude and appreciation.

“Teachers and parents welcomed the initiative and were pleased to see learners starting the academic year with renewed confidence and dignity,” he said.
