Marikana play Junior sky birds

It was a heated game when Marikana played against Junior sky birds in a friendly game in the super division of the Brakpan Local Football Association on Sunday at Malandela ground.

The bad weather which kept raining during the game, did little to dampen the spirits of the players or supporters who stayed till the game was over.

Marikana wasted no time in registering their name on the score sheet through a goal by Xolane Nxumalo.

Both teams kept losing the ball in the middle field and created very few scoring opportunities in the first half of the game.

Sky birds wasted two scoring opportunities when they were awarded a corner kick and a free kick after their player was fouled.

When Marikana got a corner kick, Xolane netted another goal.

By halftime Marikana were leading by two goals to zero.

When the game resumed Sky birds showed some fighting spirit and worked hard in search of a goal.

It wasn’t long before Sky birds had a breakthrough and scored a goal.

Marikana continued to attack the birds and it was clear Xolane was searching for a hat trick.

Less than five minutes after their first goal, Motseki Sekabata who had just come into the field equalised for the birds.

With both teams equal, the last minutes of the game were spent by both teams trying to break the deadlock, but their efforts were fruitless and the game ended in a draw.
