Passionate about sport
Soccer is the dominant sport in the townships of Kwatsaduza and many young soccer players dream of seeing themselves playing on a professional level.
The Dovola United FC from Tsakane Extension five was formed last year by Mxolisi Guntu with the aim of providing life guidance to the young boys while also ensuring soccer development in the township.
The team consists of age groups between nine and 17 years old.
Guntu says not only the boys are in the team but they also have young girls who dream of becoming the well known women’s soccer stars in the future.
Speaking about the challenges that the newly formed team encounters, Guntu says the team struggled to find a field for their training.
That was until decided to fix a soccer field that was used during the 1990s for soccer games but is no longer in use.
He says trying to fix the field was the biggest challenge that they came across as they did not have proper tools to do the job but had to use spades from their homes.
“We eventually had a sponsor for the poles and we are expecting these poles to be delivered soon,” says excited Guntu.
He says because he wants to produce the internationally known soccer stars, his team is already registered and is one the teams that play on the Brakpan Local Football Association.
