Two suspects nabbed by EMPD

Both suspects were taken to Alberton SAPS and are facing charges of possession and possible dealing in illicit substance and firearm and ammunition negligence.

Acting on a tip-off from concerned members of the public, the EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) arrested two suspects in Alberton North for being careless with a licensed firearm and being in possession of narcotics.

On September 11 between 6.30am and 6.45am at the corner of Gerrit Maritz Street and 2nd Avenue in Alberton, the DEU team apprehended two suspects for being in the possession of two ziplocks of crystal meth, 106 ziplocks of dagga and 68 knotted plastics of nyaope valued at R7 400.

“One of the arrested suspects also had a licensed Norinco firearm with eight live rounds under a pillow and was also charged under the Firearm’s Act,” said Kobeli Mokheseng, EMPD spokesperson.

Both suspects were taken to Alberton SAPS and are facing charges of possession and possible dealing in illicit substance and firearm and ammunition negligence.

The 36-year-old and the 54-year-old men are expected to appear in the Palmridge Magistrate’s Court soon.
