Persistent pleas for pothole repair go unanswered

The resident first reported the matter on July 13.

Aileen Janse van Vuuren, a concerned resident of Witteboom Street in Brackendowns, has been living on edge since July of last year due to an unresolved issue with a massive pothole.

The pothole emerged as a result of a water leak repair and was located on a curved road corner adjacent to her house. It spans half the width of the road and has become a cause for growing anxiety in the community.

Aileen first reported the matter on July 13, expressing her concerns about the potential hazards posed by the big gap in the road.

Despite multiple complaints in October and November, the pothole remains untouched. With the recent onset of rain, the situation has escalated.

The pothole, now transformed into a water-filled trap, poses an even greater risk to motorists.

Aileen fears that the obscured depth of the hole, compounded by wet conditions, creates a hazardous scenario that could lead to accidents.

“The lack of response has left me frustrated and worried for the safety of her neighbours and passersby,” she said.

“I hope my pleas will finally be heard and action be taken. It is really an accident waiting to happen.”
