Brackendowns SAPS takes action

The Brackendowns SAPS has been vigilant and proactive in addressing crime within their policing areas, resulting in several arrests from May 3 to 7.

A breakdown of the recent arrests includes:

• Firearm discharge incident:

Responding to reports of gunfire on May 3 at approximately 14:00, Brackendowns SAPS, with assistance from Fox Security, arrested a suspect involved in discharging a firearm.

“The apprehended individual is currently detained at Brackendowns SAPS awaiting a court appearance,” said Sergeant Lindile Moloi spokesperson of Brackendowns SAPS.

• Cable theft operation:

In another incident on May 3 around 07:00, Brackendowns SAPS responded to a report of ongoing cable theft in Sector 2, Brackenhurst.

The stolen cables recovered on May 3.

A pursuit ensued, resulting in the arrest of four suspects after they crashed their vehicle into a resident’s wall during a high-speed chase. The suspects are in custody at Brackendowns SAPS and will appear in the Palm Ridge Magistate’s Court soon.

• Recovery of a hijacked vehicle:

On May 6 at about 09:00, members of the Johannesburg Dog Unit received information about a hijacked vehicle located at the corner of Blue Crane Drive and Michele Avenue in Meyersdal.

Acting swiftly, Fox Security confirmed the report and apprehended a suspect associated with the hijacked blue Volkswagen Polo, previously reported stolen in Norkern Park. The suspect is scheduled to appear in Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court.

• Drug bust:

“On May 7 at around 12:18, Brackendowns SAPS Crime Prevention members were conducting patrols along Hennie Alberts Street when they encountered a suspicious man,” said Moloi.

This suspect was arrested on May 7 for being in possession of drugs.

A search led to the discovery of two packets of crystal meth and a tablet of Mandrax in the suspect’s possession.

“The suspect was arrested for drug possession and is currently in detention at Brackendowns SAPS, awaiting a court appearance.

• Unlicensed firearm seizure:

Also on May 7, at approximately 10:00, a Fox Security reaction officer noticed a suspicious Volkswagen Golf without a number plate in Meyersdal.

The firearm and ammunition recovered on May 3.

Following a search, law enforcement officers uncovered a 9mm pistol with ammunition inside the vehicle.

Moloi said the members arrested the suspect for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. He is detained at Brackendowns SAPS, pending a court appearance in Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court.
