Police arrest suspect for possession of unlicensed firearm in Alberton
Alberton police arrest man found with unlicensed firearm and ammunition during routine patrol.
Alberton SAPS have confirmed the arrest of a 32-year-old man for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
According to a statement from the office of Station Commander Colonel Letloanyane, the incident occurred on August 3 at around 20:15.
Constable Gwala and Constable Chauke were conducting routine patrols along Potgieter and Old Vereeniging roads when they attempted to stop three African males.
Two of the men fled the scene, but officers managed to apprehend one suspect.
A search revealed he was carrying an unlicensed pistol and two rounds of ammunition.

The suspect was arrested and is currently detained at Alberton Police Station.
Police have urged the public to continue reporting suspicious activity as part of ongoing efforts to combat crime in the area.
