GBV activists successfully push for the re-arrest of rape-accused man

In 2023, Brackendowns SAPS arrested a suspect – who along two juveniles, raped a 16-year-old disabled girl. The adult male has since been re-arrested after his unexplained release.

Activists from Kathorus Parliament and the Gender-Based Violence and Femicide Brigade Group successfully pushed for the re-arrest of a rape-accused man after he was released under mysterious circumstances.

In 2023, Brackendowns SAPS arrested the accused male, who is understood to be in his 40s, for the rape of a then 16-year-old disabled girl.

The adult male is accused of raping the girl in cahoots with two juveniles, who are also alleged to have participated in the rape. The arrests came after a tip-off was received, prompting the police, CPF and AfriForum members to act.

“We were made aware of this case and the release of the accused through a referral from the GBVF brigades, and then the mother of the victim made contact. We fought tooth and nail, and he was re-arrested. We deal with many cases such as this one, such as the one that happened in Randhart where Nadine Terblanche and her son, Ruandre Voster, were killed – we are still keeping an eye on that one too,” said GBV activist Pearl Mazibuko from Kathorus Parliament.
