Drugs and vapes found during school safety operation in Alberton
EMPD K9 Unit, SAPS, and other law enforcement agencies conducted a joint search at Parklands High School, uncovering dagga, cigarettes, and vapes as part of efforts to promote safety and curb gangsterism.
On October 13 at 08:00, officers from the EMPD K9 Unit, in conjunction with the SAPS, Gauteng Traffic Wardens, the Department of Education, and other law enforcement bodies, conducted a search and seizure operation at Parklands High School.
According to EMPD, the operation formed part of ongoing campaigns aimed at ensuring safety in schools and removing dangerous weapons, drugs, and other illegal items from school premises.
During the visit, officers not only searched the premises but also engaged with learners about the dangers of gangsterism, gang violence, and bullying. They highlighted the long-term consequences of crime and drug abuse.
Items discovered
The EMPD K9 sniffer dog was used to search classrooms and bathrooms for substances and weapons.
“During the search, officers discovered vapes, ziplock bags of dagga, boxes of matches, rolling papers, lighters, rolled dagga, and cigarettes among some of the learners,” said the EMPD.
“The EMPD, jointly with other stakeholders, will continue to conduct such operations to ensure safety in schools throughout the City of Ekurhuleni and promote a safe and secure learning environment for all students.”
Principal confirms routine inspection
Alberton Record was present at the school during the operation. The school principal confirmed that the search was part of routine procedures, as it was the first day of school.
According to the principal, nothing major was found during the inspection.
