Police operations in Joburg south end with multiple arrests
Ekurhuleni and Joburg south see multiple arrests as police intensify crime fight.
The Gauteng SAPS recently launched their safer festive season operations, starting with the arrest of 75 suspects for driving under the influence of alcohol on October 18.
The provincial commissioner of the police in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, said the operation is aimed at combating crime and ensuring public safety during the festive season.
The SAPS arrested over 1 000 suspects for various crimes across Gauteng. In Ekurhuleni, 154 suspects were arrested for crimes including dealing in liquor, possession of drugs, and contravention of protection orders.

Johannesburg South, including areas like South Hills, Moffat View, and La Rochelle, saw 218 arrests for crimes like possession of unlicensed firearms, assault, and malicious property damage.
The operations also targeted wanted suspects for serious crimes like rape, sexual assault, murder, and robbery.
Mthombeni led the multidisciplinary operation, prioritising roadblocks, stop-and-searches, and patrols at key locations.
The arrested suspects are scheduled to appear in court on October 20.
