2 arrested in separate fraud and hijacking cases in Alberton

Alberton SAPS arrested two suspects in separate incidents on October 18, involving firearms, fraud, and a vehicle hijacking.

Fraudulent documents and illegal immigration in Florentia

On October 18, at around 16:30, police received information about a Zimbabwean national allegedly in possession of two unlicensed firearms and printing fraudulent Home Affairs documents at a residence in Florentia.

When officers arrived in the area, they found the suspect sitting in his vehicle not far from the address.

Upon being asked for his travel documents, the man told officers that he only had copies at home.

Permission was granted to search the premises, where the police discovered multiple documents suspected to be fraudulent Home Affairs work permits.

No firearms were recovered, but the Local Criminal Record Centre attended the scene and collected several exhibits.

The 38-year-old suspect was arrested and detained at Alberton SAPS on charges of fraud, being an illegal immigrant, and pointing a firearm.

Hijacking suspect identified and arrested

In a separate case, at around 17:00, police arrested a man linked to a vehicle hijacking that occurred earlier in the day in Rondebult.

According to police, the complainant had gone to the Alberton Police Station to report the hijacking and kidnapping.

He alleged that the suspect had pointed a firearm at him, ordered him to lie on the ground, and then drove off with his vehicle.

While at the station, the complainant identified one of the suspects brought in by a community safety officer as one of the men involved in the hijacking.

The suspect was subsequently arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, as well as possession of a hijacked vehicle, linked to a case opened at Dawn Park SAPS.
