New Sector 2 Crime Forum elected to boost community safety in Kliprivier

The newly elected Sector 2 Crime Forum will play a vital role in rebuilding trust, improving visibility and strengthening partnerships between residents, security groups and the Kliprivier SAPS.

The Kliprivier SAPS hosted a community meeting to revive and elect the Sector 2 Crime Forum on October 23.

The event brought together SAPS management, the district CPF chairperson and residents from various neighbourhoods, including Skycity, Garthdale, Gardenvale, Klipwater, Daleside, Witkoppie, Schoongezigt, and Waterval.

Security company representatives and active community members also attended, demonstrating a shared commitment to safety and partnership.

Strengthening community policing

Despite challenges faced by the community, 27 residents participated in the elections, reflecting a spirit of co-operation and civic responsibility.

Through open and constructive discussions, attendees nominated and elected individuals to key leadership positions in the forum.

The elected officials:

Chairperson: Kyle Schoeman;

Deputy chair: Marius Steenkamp;

Secretary: Marcelle Schoeman;

Deputy secretary: Bonita Steenkamp;

Heads of patrollers: Katlego Mahlaole, Mark du Plessis, Gareth C;

Heads of youth: Hector Makoro and Godfrey Sikhakhane;

Head of elderly: Themba Ngobeni;

Head of urban rural: Phillip Kemp.

Commitment to safety and unity

The newly elected members were commended for their willingness to serve in voluntary roles that strengthen the relationship between the police and the community.

Their leadership will help improve communication, visibility and co-ordination in addressing crime-related challenges across the sector.

Station commander Lieutenant Colonel IJ Mofokeng congratulated the new committee and encouraged all stakeholders to continue supporting one another in crime prevention and community development.

Sergeant Ndhambi of the Kliprivier SAPS praised the turnout and collective spirit, saying, “This election showed that when community members stand together, we can make a real difference in fighting crime. The dedication shown today gives us hope for a safer Sector 2.”
