Gauteng Police arrest 966 suspects during High-Density Operation Shanela in Johannesburg
Hundreds of suspects, including those wanted for crimes against women and children, were arrested during the Gauteng SAPS crackdown.
Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni is currently leading a multidisciplinary High-Density Operation Shanela 2 in the Booysens and Moffat View policing precincts, Johannesburg District, resulting in multiple arrests and a significant disruption of criminal activity.
At a roadblock during the operation, one suspect was apprehended for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Additionally, 28 illegal immigrants have been arrested, and eight individuals were caught in possession of drugs.
Provincial detectives also made a major impact overnight, arresting 966 wanted suspects, including 205 wanted for crimes against women and children.

Operations like Shanela are part of Gauteng SAPS’s ongoing efforts to combat crime, protect vulnerable communities, and remove dangerous elements from the streets.
