State opposes bail in Mulbarton kidnapping case involving 12 boys
The prosecution remains opposed to bail for the accused and the case will resume with the defense attorney making his first appearance at court
A joint operation between Fox Security and the JMPD led to the rescue of 12 boys and the arrest of a foreign national suspected of kidnapping on January 5.
The accused, a man from Ethiopia, appeared in the Booysens Magistrate’s Court on January 12.
The accused faces 12 counts of kidnapping and one count of failure to stop a vehicle at the request of a police officer.
Defense attorney Montana was present at court to come on record for the defense, but after a long meeting with Magistrate Vele, he left the court, as he said he had other appointments. Montana will only come on record at the next appearance.
The accused requested bail, and his attorney was preparing a bail application. However, the State is still opposed to bail because they verified the accused’s profile and criminal record.
Vele postponed the case for the defense to submit a bail affidavit, for the accused to be profiled, and for the defense attorney to be present at court.
The case will resume on January 16.
