2 killed in taxi and vehicle collision in Phumula

Emergency crews rushed to the R103 and Ndiphe Road crossing in Phumula after a late-night crash involving a taxi and a light motor vehicle.

Two men lost their lives following a tragic collision between a taxi and a light motor vehicle at the R103 and Ndiphe Road crossing near the BP Filling Station in Phumula.

The accident occurred at approximately 21:30 on January 19, when the Ekurhuleni Emergency Services Control Centre received reports of a serious motor vehicle crash.

Fire and Rescue teams from Vosloorus were immediately dispatched to the scene.

According to Ekurhuleni Emergency Services (EMS) spokesperson Maswati Mdluli, emergency responders arrived to find that a taxi and a light motor vehicle had collided.

“Three priority two patients were treated at the scene and transported by various ambulances to Thelle Mogoerane Hospital for further medical care,” Mdluli said.

Tragically, two adult males who were travelling in the light motor vehicle sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene by Gauteng paramedics.

The Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department, together with the South African Police Service, will continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Mdluli urged motorists to exercise caution when driving at night, especially in areas with limited visibility.

“Drivers are reminded to adhere to speed limits and remain alert at all times,” she said.
