Alberton hosts ‘Clergy Appreciation 2024’ to address community challenges

The event was aimed at gathering faith leaders and political activists in a room to discuss drug abuse, GBV, corruption and other social ills.

Leaders of faith groups and political activists gathered at the Bracken Park Community Hall in Alberton, on November 23.

Here, like-minded individuals discussed societal ills affecting their communities like drug abuse, GBV, alcohol abuse and other issues. The gathering was themed ‘Clergy Appreciation 2024’.

“Our places of worship must get back into the forefront of issues plaguing our communities and we must stand firm against issues such as drug abuse, gender-based-violence, unethical leadership and corrupt practices, especially in government,” said Clr Dino Peterson of Eden Park who gave the keynote address and message of appreciation to the clergy.

Peterson added: “The idea behind this gathering was also to show appreciation and thank our spiritual leaders for the work they do in our communities.”

Among the attendees were councillors from other wards in the City of Ekurhuleni, young people and community activists. A similar gathering will again be held in October 2025.
