Water supply disruptions hit Alberton North and South Crest

Emergency valve replacement and pipe burst cause interruptions; golfers at Reading Golf Course are advised to take caution while repairs are underway.

Residents of Alberton North and South Crest are currently experiencing water supply interruptions due to two separate issues, Ward 37 Councillor Ivan Naidoo confirmed today, July 15.

Rand Water emergency shutdown underway

The first issue is a Rand Water emergency shutdown involving critical maintenance work scheduled for today.

Naidoo said the bleeding of the main water line began at 05:00 and is expected to last about six hours. A 50-ton crane has been stationed on site to assist with valve replacement procedures throughout the day.

“Limited parking will be available in the middle section of the affected parking lot due to equipment and ongoing work. Certain zones have been blocked off, and residents and visitors are urged to follow all instructions from security personnel on site,” he said.

Advisory for Reading Golf Course golfers

Golfers at Reading Golf Course are advised to exercise caution.

“The release valve is situated near the right of the 9th fairway, past the second bridge leading to the 1st tee box. During previous maintenance, water from the valve sprayed over the tree line toward the left side of the 10th fairway,” said Naidoo.

“With an anticipated six-hour drainage period, flooding is likely in this area. Golfers are strongly advised to avoid the vicinity of the release valve, the left side of the 10th fairway, and the adjacent rough.”

Burst pipe adds to water supply issues

In addition to the Rand Water maintenance, there is also a burst pipe in Alberton North. This separate issue is further affecting the water supply to both Alberton North and South Crest.

Municipal teams are responding to both incidents, and residents are urged to remain patient while efforts to restore the normal water supply continue.

Previous maintenance at Reading Golf Course

This follows earlier planned maintenance at Reading Golf Course, where controlled blasting took place on July 10 and 11.

The club confirmed that those operations were routine and low impact, with compacted sand used to cover the blast areas to reduce noise. No disruptions to nearby residents or road users were reported.
