Today, the Colonel Rowland Home for the Deaf and Blind Aged continues its mission of providing residential and nursing care for the deaf and blind elderly community.

The facility is one of three in South Africa and fully accessible to the visual and tactile needs of its residents. The Colonel Rowland Home accommodates three, two-bedroom units and 12, one-bedroom units. The strongest aim of the home at the moment is survival, the renovations of the buildings, upgrading the security facilities and ensuring the sustainability of the home in the current economic climate.

The second most urgent need is the dramatic improvement of the sick bay, bathroom amenities and staff ablution facilities to comply with modern standards. The current facilities do not meet the requirements for the care of the elderly and frail. For more information, contact Ms Lynette van Velze on 083 397 3290 or e-mail hlvanvelze@telkomsa.net
