Payton to hear again
Payton, who attends school in Bedfordview, lost her hearing in May last year after a respiratory infection.
Two-year-old Payton Peters is adjusting well to her external sound processors.
This is according to her mother, Ms Michelle Van Zyl, who posted on her Facebook page, Help Payton Hear.
Her post read, “Payton is doing really well with the processor. She is now responding to all sounds and is getting better with hearing the softer and high frequency sounds. We get excited about even the smallest response. She has even started responding to her name now. We are now in the process of teaching her to recognise different sounds.”
Payton, who attends school in Bedfordview, lost her hearing in May last year after a respiratory infection.
She underwent a life-changing cochlear implant operation on July 22 this year and had her external sound processors switched on in August.
Ms Van Zyl thanked members of the public for the financial and emotional support showed to her family during her daughter’s cochlear implant operation.
Her daughter’s operation cost over R750 000 and because their medical aid would not cover the costs, she launched a variety of fundraising projects with her family.
She said Payton still needs to get a second external sound processor, which they are yet to raise funds for.
“We are in the final stretch of fundraising with only R120 000 still needed,” she added.
“What a journey we have been on so far and we are so blessed to be seeing the amazing results. We have been tested in our patience, faith and strength throughout this journey and have definitely come out stronger and victorious,” she added.
