New team member for Wedge Gardens
"I have a passion for psychiatry and find addiction exceptionally complex and multifaceted."
Rand Aid’s Wedge Gardens Treatment Centre welcomed Ms Kendra Neethling as the centre’s new occupational therapist.
While at Wedge Gardens, Ms Neethling hopes to provide meaningful, healthy and satisfying engagements to those in need.
“I have a passion for psychiatry and find addiction exceptionally complex and multifaceted,” said Ms Neethling.
She said, as an occupational therapist, it is important to provide skills and resources to a person which will assist them to reclaim their place in society.
One of the plans Ms Neethling said the centre’s occupational therapy department will focus on includes having a garden project, which will promote the healthy use of leisure time.
She said another project will be the continuation of the Wedge Café, which promotes social skills, management and survival skills.
Ms Neethling said activities such as treasure hunts, braais and picnics will also be hosted to promote deinstitutionalisation.
“All of these activities will help ensure a smooth transition back into society,” said Ms Neethling.
