Her focus has been health education first to pregnant women and later to teenagers when she started the NGO called Just One Teenager.
She did a journalism course through Quo Vadis in 2000 and was the editor of Health and Hygiene nursing magazine for a while. She has been freelancing as a health-care writer for various baby magazines since 2006. More recently she has turned to blogging to get her messages through.

The monthly meeting will be on the same day at 1pm for 2pm. Cost for members is R15 and R20 for non-members and that includes refreshments.
The meeting will be presented by Pamela Heller-Stern. Pamela will talk about a writers journey – cannon balls and church cinderella and pumpkin carriages at midnight.
Pamela will introduce and discuss two of her novels, The Pink Slippers and Who’s Knocking on my Door, as well as her writing career.
Ex-Cape Town now transplanted Gautenger, Pamela has always been involved in fine art, writing and research. She lectured in English Literature at the University of the Witwatersrand at the age of 22 and completed her doctorate there at the age of 25.
The Pink Slippers explores the life of Sister Beatrice, a St Augustinian nun and nursing sister in the context of the Cinderella myth.
Since her retirement 10 years ago, she writes full-time. Her newly completed novel Have a Heart will be published in the UK in June 2018. She is also in the process of editing a historical novel on the Randlord era of Johannesburg to be published locally.
Her books will be on sale after the talk at a discounted price and she will be donating 10 per cent of the sales to Writers 2000 for the purchase of books for The Wedge Rehabilitation Centre in Lyndhurst.
The venue for both events will be at Inyoni Creek clubhouse, Rand Aid Complex, corner of Modderfontein and Wordsworth roads.
