Residents upgrade park
Ward 20 Clr Jill Humphreys said residents officially adopted the park and will be doing improvements.
On July 3, residents and Saheti School began a community clean-up and upgrade at the Chaucer Road Park in Senderwood, Bedfordview, after adopting the park.
Ward 20 Clr Jill Humphreys said residents officially adopted the park and will be making improvements.
This means that residents are responsible for the maintenance of the park and are allowed to do upgrades.
“Thank you to Saheti School for the massive upgrade and manpower with the installation of netball courts, a soccer field and bike and walk tracks,” said Humphreys.

Saheti School has also come on board.
Warren Manson, operations manager at Saheti School, said parents of learners at Saheti stay in the area and the school is close to the park as well.

“We would like the entire community to be able to enjoy a ‘green area’ in our beautiful suburb.
“As a school, with the help of our service provider Greenturf, we have the manpower, machinery and knowledge to be able to help,” said Manson.
He said Saheti would like nothing more than seeing families enjoy the park and getting to know one another as a Senderwood community.

Manson added that Saheti has donated and installed two sets of netball goals, one set of mini-soccer goals, 16 concrete dustbins and 15 trees.
“We spent two full days cutting lawns, brush-cutting edges, cutting dead trees, crown-lifting trees, litter and stone removal, labour and machinery,” said Manson.

Still to come for the park, Manson said benches are being built out of Bluegum trees and square tubing.
He said there will also be excavation of a bicycle track and footpath, composting and planting and learners will also do community service.
“As a school, we are excited about the project and will help wherever we can,” said Manson.

Louis Loulianou, Meze Centre manager, said residents are in the process of getting quoted for fencing of the park, where the centre will donate 20 per cent of the cost.
He said they are hoping to get the rest of the funding from residents of Senderwood.
“The upgrade of the park will improve the community, along with the centre,” said Loulianou.
