According to the communications officer of Sebenza Police Station, Sgt Sharon Tsotsotso, five male suspects allegedly invaded the guard room of business premises on Spencer Road at 8pm.
“Two security guards were on duty in the guard room during the time.”
According to the guards, the suspects pointed firearms and a knife at them and they were told not to move or else they would be killed.
One of the guards added the suspects searched him and took his firearm, a 9mm pistol, cash amounting to R1 000 and a cellphone.
The two guards were then tied up in the guard room.
Tsotsotso said one other security guard was patrolling the premises during this time.
“When the guard returned from patrolling, he saw a group of people in the guard room and suspected that something was wrong. He then ran to the nearest company and was assisted to make call to his control room and the police.
“On further investigation, the police noticed suspects broke the main gate to gain entry into the premises. No shots were fired during the robbery. Video footage is available and although the suspects are unknown, they can be pointed out,” said Tsotsotso.
