More arrests made in Edenvale as level four continues

Officers are investigating the identified businesses and will make arrests where necessary.

Edenvale SAPS has raised concerns over the number of businesses in sector two which are believed to be operating illegally and behind closed doors.
According to police, some of the businesses, which are primarily located in Eastleigh, are not considered essential services.
Edenvale SAPS spokesperson Sgt Jacob Mashile said officers are investigating the identified businesses and will make arrests where necessary.

In some instances, business owners had incorrect documents.

“Officers visited one business who had a level five permit to operate, but not a level four permit,” said Mashile.

“Businesses resuming operation has contributed to the number of arrests made.”

On May 13, Mashile told the News that approximately 20 individuals were arrested since May 6.

Mashile highlighted that arrests were made in connection to residents being out of their homes unnecessarily and after curfew and working at businesses which did not have a permit to resume operation.

Since the start of May and level four, close to 30 people have been arrested in Edenvale for lockdown contravention.
Mashile appealed to the community to obey the regulations and guidelines provided by the government.
“The police understand that the lockdown is tough on everybody, but residents need to obey the law and abide by the regulations.”
