Gauteng police arrested 10 suspects aged between 30 and 54 and recovered nine firearms following a shootout in Cleveland on Monday, September 21.

The incident happened at about 19:36 when police officers conducting patrols in the area noticed a suspicious Hyundai H100 fitted with blue lights and a siren.

According to a police report, the vehicle stopped when police approached but drove off when officers attempted to intercept it.

Police called for backup and continued following the vehicle.

When it eventually stopped, three suspects allegedly jumped out and opened fire at the police, resulting in a shootout.

Two suspects allegedly fled the scene on foot, while a third suspect was fatally shot.

Police then searched the vehicle and found 10 suspects inside. Nine firearms, magazines and live ammunition were recovered.

Cleveland police have opened cases of murder, attempted murder, attempted business robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
