Edenvale FC Hosts Football Tournament to Raise Awareness and Funds for Cansa

Over 110 teams participated in three days of exciting football as part of the Edenvale Football Club’s Cansa Tournament.

The Edenvale Football Club’s (EFC) Cansa Tournament again brought the football community together in a show of spirit, compassion and unity.

“This year’s tournament was our biggest to date, with 110 teams participating over three days of exciting football, all in support of a cause that touches every one of us,” said Melissa Calitz from the EFC committee.

The tournament, which takes place annually in October in recognition of Cancer Awareness Month, was held on October 24, 25 and 26.

For the EFC, this event is about far more than football. It’s about honouring those affected by cancer, raising funds for Cansa, and celebrating the power of community.

“Our objective has always been to create a platform where people can come together through the love of the game while making a real difference,” Calitz said.

She added that football has an incredible way of uniting people, and this tournament proved just that.

The fields were full of not just competition, but connection, laughter and a shared sense of purpose.

She said, “We are proud to say that this year’s event met and exceeded all expectations in participation and the funds raised for Cansa. The outpouring of support from clubs, coaches, players, parents, volunteers and sponsors was overwhelming.

“We’ve received countless messages of gratitude and praise for the event’s organisation and atmosphere, feedback that reminds us why we do what we do.”

At the EFC, community is at the heart of everything. This tournament embodies EFC’s belief that sport can change lives; it can uplift, inspire, and bring people together for something bigger than the game itself.

Looking ahead, the EFC aims to continue growing the Cansa Tournament, expanding its reach and impact each year.

Their vision is to see even more clubs join them, more awareness raised, and more hope shared, because “when a community stands together, amazing things happen”.
