Ruan aims for green and gold

The talented young rugby player has showed he has the passion to play with the best and was recently selected to practice with the Springboks at St Peter's College before they departed for the end of year tour.

Ruan Rall has his sights set on playing for the Springboks.

The 18-year-old Edenvale resident believes he has what it takes to make the cut and represent his country at an international level.

The talented young rugby player has showed he has the passion to play with the best and was recently selected to practice with the Springboks at St Peter’s College before they departed for the end of year tour.

During one of the practise sessions, Ruan was called aside by his hero, Pat Lambie, who offered him several kicking tips.

“The practice sessions were not easy but it felt really good to be on the field with the Boks,” said Ruan.

His coach, Vic de Klerk from the Edenvale Panthers, believes Ruan is a one in a million player, who South Africa cannot lose.

Ruan started playing rugby at the age of 10 while living with his father in Sasolburg.

Later he moved to Edenvale to stay with his mother and joined the Edenvale Panthers, where he has played for the last three years.

Ruan is currently writing matric at School of Achievement in Germiston and hopes to soon be drafted to play for either the Lions or his personal favourite, Western Province.

“Ruan’s dedication is something out of this world. He just wants it so badly and he has the talent to back it up,” said Vic.

Over weekends, residents passing by the Edenvale Rugby Club will more often than not see Ruan on the field practising his kicking skills.

“I want to encourage all youngsters to follow their dreams and do what they love. That is when passion kicks in,” said Ruan.
