Willowmoore stadium CEO suspended

Many within Easterns believe the suspensions are an internal matter and do not require Cricket SA’s intervention.

Willowmoore Park Stadium have remained strong throughout lockdown, although much has been happening that should have dampened a few spirits. The Easterns Cricket Union recently suspended chief executive Mpho Seopa in August, pending an investigation.

That suspension followed a special meeting of the Easterns board when a set of reports pertaining to Seopa, were submitted.

Among the charges are insubordination, overspending and not getting board approval for entertainment expenses.

Easterns president Peter Vonya resigned at an acrimonious meeting recently and a new president will be elected at the AGM scheduled for November 29.

Acting CEO/board liaison and club cricket administrator Berrelyn Platt has been put in charge for the time being. “The lockdown came into affect just as our season was drawing to a close,” said Platt.

“We only missed one provincial game and two weeks of club cricket, so it didn’t put a huge damper on our spirits.” They have been trying their utmost best to revamp the stadium and do maintenance where they can. “From the green light, in level three, we were allowed to bring back training, so we had to get the stadium ready, especially with Covid protocols.
