Girl (7) not kidnapped from school, as reported

A seven-year-old Gekombineerde Skool Noorderlig pupil was not kidnapped from school today.

A false alarm was raised following a misunderstanding, which has now been resolved by the police.

A message was doing the rounds this afternoon, in a Community Police Forum (CPF) group, stating that the child was “taken” after school.

The City Times has learnt that the child was, in fact, walking home with two friends on Springs Road, when a car stopped.

One of the car’s occupants got out and put the child in the car.

Two of the child’s friends apparently went home and informed their parents that their friend was “kidnapped”.

The parents reported the matter to the Crystal Park police.

The City Times has learnt that the child was picked up from the roadside by someone who has permission to collect the child from school.

The child’s peers believed she was being kidnapped because she did not want to get into the car.

Police spoke to the girl’s parents who confirmed that the scholar is safe at home.
