NPO to help restore people’s dignity

"Everyone was born with dignity but most people in our community think their dignity is a privilege, not a right."

The House of Glory Projects (HG Projects) aims to restore people’s dignity through various missions, including poverty relief and social education and healthcare programmes.

The organisation was established in 2017 by the House of Glory International Fellowship to help uplift the community of Mayfield.

It was officially launched on March 21 and its goal is to see equality in society and help those affected by drug abuse, GBV and other social ills prevalent in the area.

“Our pastor always says the church should be a place where people get help, not a place where they get ripped off. We believe everyone was born with dignity but most people in our community think their dignity is a privilege, not a right,” said HG Projects PRO Jacqueline Shongwe.

She added that their primary objectives are welfare, humanitarian, social and heathcare projects but they will also focus on education and development, religion, culture, sports and recreation.

“We are now busy with SAQA registration so we can be in a position to train underprivileged community members for various qualifications so they can be employable or start their businesses in order to live a life that is free from the R350 grant offered by the government.

“Many of our people have found solace in drugs, trying to run away from their dignity stripping conditions and this only increases the crime rate in the community because in order to maintain the drug habit, criminality must take place,” said Shongwe.

The launch was attended by stakeholders including the SAPS, EMPD, SANCA and various community organisations.
