Foreign nationals’ side hustle goes up in smoke

Law enforcers remain committed to fighting crime.

Two Ethiopian nationals were arrested in Vosloorus on December 11 for being in possession of illicit cigarettes.

Acting on information, members of the EMPD High-Speed Unit and Crime Intelligence members conducted a sting operation on a shop said to be selling illicit cigarettes.

“Two men, aged 27 and 29, were arrested,” said CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.

Illicit cigarettes were confiscated from the Vosloorus shop.

“A further charge of contravening the Immigration Act was added when neither could produce documentation to verify their immigration status.”

The suspects were detained at the Vosloorus Police Station and will be appearing in court soon.
