3RC celebrates 25 years of inspiring South African youth
Celebrated on 6 August at the Benoni International Hotel School, 3RC’s 25th anniversary honoured its journey of empowering thousands of learners across South Africa through career expos, virtual platforms, and youth development initiative
3RC, the organisation behind the popular Rocking Future career expos that help high school students explore post-school study and career options, celebrated its 25th birthday on August 6 at the International Hotel School in Benoni
The event marked a quarter-century of motivating and inspiring South African youth. Founded by a young mom and a performer, Kay Cheytanov, 3RC began as a unique combination of motivational shows and career guidance.

“I was a musician touring the country, but I wanted to reach young learners differently. After hearing a radio advert for a computer college, I realised I could blend music, storytelling and study options to help students discover their futures.”
From starting with 25 schools and four colleges, 3RC has grown to reach 240 schools and around 35 000 Grade 12 learners each year, featuring 46 private tertiary institutions.

“At every expo, learners meet with 28 exhibitors representing fields from arts to IT, business to hospitality, and receive the Future Guide magazine packed with helpful information.
“3RC’s expos promote accredited private institutions that offer qualifications equivalent to State Universities and connect students to employers through practical work placements, preparing them for the job market.”

The organisation also innovated with Swiwel, launched in 2020, a 3D immersive career expo accessible to learners nationwide. Additionally, the High Five theatre shows, introduced in 2024, help students deal with stress and anxiety, inspired by Kay’s daughter’s experience with bullying.
“Success isn’t a straight path,” Kay reminds students.
“If you don’t get into your first-choice university, there are many other routes. Stay curious, keep learning, and trust the process.”
