Boksburg karateka impress at tournament
The students have collected a combined 32 medals from three tournaments.
The Lotus Karate Club chief instructor, sensei Raveen Dayaram, expressed his gratitude to Reuben and Aiden Georgeson after the students each collected two medals at the Tigers Traditional Tournament in Pretoria on 16 August.
Reuben received gold medals in kata and kumite, while Aiden collected a bronze in kata and silver in kumite.
“Thanks to all my students for their hard work and effort in this tournament. It was a lot of work from everyone. I’m extremely proud of them. They were brave to go out there and do what they did,” said Dayaram.

The sensei also praised his students for their achievements at the Goshukan Invitational Championships on 2 August at Brakpan Indoor Sports Centre and the Mini Gladiator Challenge on 28 June.
The club collected four medals – two gold and two silver – at the Goshukan Invitational, with Reuben taking gold in kata and silver in kumite, while Aiden and Dayaram received gold in kata and silver in kumite, respectively.

At the Mini Gladiator Challenge, Dayaram’s youngsters collected a total of 24 medals – nine gold, five silver, and five bronze – as well as an additional five for participation.
“We are already winners just for practising karate and competing because it takes guts, determination, and a lot of courage to go out there and compete. The medals are a bonus. It is nice to win medals, but even if we don’t, we still win by competing and learning to better ourselves,” he said.
