IN PICTURES: Runners hit the road for Tommy Malone

Check to see if Caxton Local Media’s Boksburg Advertiser and Benoni City Times, snapped you in action at this morning’s race.

Hadedas trumpeted with shrill shrieks, welcoming the participants of the Tommy Malone Memorial Race to the sleepy streets of Parkrand, this morning.

Laced up and rearing to go, an estimated total of 1 117 runners made their way to the Boksburg City Stadium, at the crack of dawn, to take part in Boksburg Athletics Club’s (BAC) annual road race, in honour of Malone.

The stalwart not only claimed victory at the 1966 Comrades Marathon but also passionately served as the club’s first chairman.

In celebration of BAC’s 50th anniversary, 390 took part in the 7.5km fun run, while 727 braved the steep inclines of Jubilee and Dudley Smith roads in the 15km leg of the race.

The Boksburg Advertiser and Benoni City Times were there to capture the fun and excitement.
