Seven men arrested in Petit for hijacked trailer and R1.2m stock

They are expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon.

Seven suspects, aged between 25 and 38, were arrested on October 31 after they were allegedly found offloading a hijacked trailer and stock of Cremora worth about R1.2m at a plot in Petit.

According to EMPD spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, officers from the EMPD, working in conjunction with a private security company and Crime Intelligence, received information at approximately 09:00 about a truck that had been hijacked earlier that morning in Pretoria.

“Following the coordinates, the officers were led to a plot in Gwendeleon Street in Petit where they found the men offloading the hijacked trailer with the stock,” said Dlamini.

While searching the property, officers also recovered additional stock (office cabinets) reported stolen last month in a case registered at Dawn Park SAPS.

The owner of the hijacked trailer was called to the scene to confirm the recovered goods and the Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC) was summoned to process fingerprints. The trailer was subsequently taken to the Van Ryn vehicle pound for further investigation.

The seven suspects, facing charges of possession of a reported hijacked motor vehicle, possession of hijacked stock, and contravention of the Immigration Act, were detained at Crystal Park Police Station. They will appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon.
