Benoni Child Welfare mourns loss of dedicated worker Ethel Mazibuko
Memorial service will be held on November 11 at Victor Ndlazilwana Community Hall in Daveyton from 10:00 to 12:00.
Greater Benoni Child Welfare (GBCW) is mourning the loss of one of its most beloved and longest-serving staff members, Ethel Mazibuko, affectionately known as Ethy, who passed away on November 1 after a short illness.
Mazibuko dedicated 32 years of her life to the organisation, joining Benoni Child Welfare in 1993 as an auxiliary worker – a role she fulfilled with passion and compassion until her passing.

In 2023, her colleagues celebrated her 30-year milestone with a surprise party at the GBCW offices in Northmead.
During that celebration, Mazibuko told the Benoni City Times that she hoped to serve another 10 years, describing the organisation as her “second home.”

Vanessa Carelse, director of Benoni Child Welfare, said Mazibuko’s passing leaves a deep void in the organisation and the community it serves.
“Ethel served with compassion, worked with excellence and lived with purpose. er unwavering dedication to her community and her work at Benoni Child Welfare touched many lives and left a legacy of care and service that will never be forgotten.
“Our friend and colleague – a loyal heart, a gentle spirit and a life devoted to service – your light lives on in every life you touched,” said Carelse.

Mazibuko’s memorial service will be held on November 11 at Victor Ndlazilwana Community Hall in Daveyton from 10:00 to 12:00.
