BHS pipe band strike the right cords

Band members won several awards during the recent championship

Members of Benoni High School’s (BHS) pipe band raked in the awards during the recent South African Solo Drumming Championship.

The 12 participants struck all the right cords, securing nine top three positions in various categories at the SA Solo Drumming Championships.

Grade Eight learner Reabetswe Taele took first place for Tenor Junior MSR, third for Tenor Open MSR and third place for Snare Novice B March, while Callan Stephens (Grade Nine) placed first for Snare Novice B March.

First place went to David Engles (Grade 11) and third to Donovan Nelson for Bass Junior MSR.
Alex Leleka (Grade Nine) was awarded first place for Drum Pad and Connor Tibbott (Grade Eight) second place.

Nkateko Mathebula (Grade Eight) further took third place for Tenor Novice March.
At the Benoni Eisteddfod the band received seven medals with Sean Filer (Grade 11) claiming Piper of the Year.

Members also received four A+++ certificates during the Talente Eisteddfod.
