I have honestly lost all faith in mankind … two Friday’s ago I parked at The Falls Spar parking area.
When I got out of my car I noticed a trolley, pushed against a tree, with a handbag still in it!
I ran around asking everyone if it was theirs.
A man said he’d just seen a car leave and I should look in the bag for contact details.
I decided against it, but took the bag into Spar; none of the managers was ‘available’, so I handed it to a lady who was working in the office.
I know Spar is not a “lost property office”, but was sure the owner of the bag would remember that she’d left it in the trolley and go back to see if any kind, honest soul had perhaps handed it in.
I enquired the following Friday to see if the bag had been collected. It was not in the safe, “so must’ve been claimed”.
I honestly expected to see a “thank you” in the Benoni Times .,. surely this lady was grateful; but obviously too much to expect!
I presume the red leather bag must’ve held her ‘worldly possessions’… cellphone, ID, bank cards, maybe house keys, purse, etc!
I would’ve been so grateful, whatever the cost of the advert, but different strokes for different folks.
