On the CD shelf
Listening to the smooth sounds of the slick rock ‘n roll tunes produced by the instruments of Benoni band Them Bandits, I instantly closed my eyes, sat back and allowed my mind to wander off to the deserted roads of the American Old West, in the 19th century.
The band recently released their full-length debut album, “Black Town”.
What you can expect from it is a good old rock ‘n roll-style, matching that of Nirvana, Foo Fighters and Billy Talent.
I will even go so far as to compare the band with rock legends Metallica, but combined with their unique Western blues kick.
While this may not be everybody’s first choice of genre, I will recommend the album to anyone who just wants to slip on a pair of shades and take on the long road.
Them Bandits are fresh on the music scene as a band, yet perform country-wide, having opened for bands like Fuzigish, Desmond and the Tutus, Jet Black Camero and One Day Remains, amongst others.
What I, personally, enjoyed from this album, setting aside lyrics, style and genre, was the musicians’ clear, honest talent and the fair amount of practise invested in their music.
The band consists of Tyrone Parsons on guitar, Alex Botha on vocals, Wayne van Tonder on drums and Kevin Hughes on bass guitar.
If you enjoy rock ‘n roll, bad boys and the Wild, Wild West, this band is for you.
Writing their songs is a combined effort by all the members and these can be found on Sound Cloud, ITunes, Spotify, CD Baby and Last Fm.
