TIME is running out for the province’s school-going photographers to enter a competition to win more than R17 500 in cash prizes.
Five categories allow photographers the opportunity to showcase their talents and there is no limit to the number of entries photographers can submit. It is open to all pupils between the ages of 13 and 19.
Part of Culture@Kearsney, the competition is being run in conjunction with the Matthew Willman Visual Arts Foundation.
Willman is a local documentary photographer who has photographed personalities from Madiba, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and the Dalai Lama, to former US president Bill Clinton and singer Annie Lennox. He stresses the value of using photography as a visual platform for social change and upliftment.
The competition categories include: I have a dream (capturing an aspect of the performance arts), Window into my school (what makes your school special), Visual activism: My image speaks! (telling the story though a photograph), Ubuntu Portrait: I am because we are (a creative portrait) and Proudly South African (something truly South African).
Visit www.kearsney.com for competition details and rules. The deadline for submission of entries is Wednesday 14 August. There will be an exhibition of entries received to be held during September.
