IT was a proud moment for some Embury College pupils when they graduated from Toastmasters recently.
This year, ten Grade 11 pupils participated in toastmasters during the second term. The pupils were tasked with presenting speeches, impromptus and evaluations. They were required to write speeches and given various duties over the course of the term. Each pupil learnt valuable lessons in public speaking and meeting protocols. The course also taught them leadership skills and boosted their confidence.
At the graduation each pupil, along with their families and friends, got the opportunity to see how each of their fellow pupils had improved, and without a doubt there was an extreme difference between the speeches of the first week and the speeches at the graduation.
At the end of the term, Mthobisi Zamisa was presented with the Best Speech award, with Genévieve Lewington a close second. Natasha De Villiers won Best Impromptu and Genévieve Lewington was second. Mandisa Sidlayi won both Best Evaluation and Most Improved.
