BEREA policemen managed to arrest and overpower a gunman at a local park in Berea last Thursday night.
According to Lieutenant PN Naidoo, communications officer at Berea SAPS, W/O Faizel Sarkhot and Constable Byron Erasmus were patrolling along Botanic Avenue at about 10.30pm when they noticed a suspicious man sitting in the park under a tree.
“As soon as the members stopped the police vehicle nearby the man awoke to get away. When the members chased him the suspect pulled out a firearm and he tried to shoot at the police, but the firearm jammed,” explained Naidoo.
The police overpowered the gunman and he was arrested. The man ,who is approximately 37 years old, was detained at Berea SAPS and charged with pointing of a firearm.
