Property owner told to clean up
The municipality responded to a complaint regarding a house in Youngs Avenue, Berea, and has forced the owner to clean up.
THE owner of property in Youngs Avenue has taken steps to clean up his property after meeting with city officials who were alerted to the problems on the property by neighbours.
According to nearby resident, Wayne Grundy, he had been trying since January to get the municipality to take action on the decaying property in Youngs Avenue, Berea.
He said the house was a hive of activity, and neighbours were concerned with the illegal building and refuse problems that existed on the property.
“Inhabitants are causing a major rat infestation. The pool is black, which has caused a bad mosquito problem. Some illegal unplastered building has joined the mess,” said Grundy.
In response to queries by Berea Mail, eThekwini Head of Communications, Tozi Mthethwa, said: “The complaint regarding rodents, mosquitos and refuse on a property in Youngs Avenue was referred to the City on 19 August. On the same day City officials had a meeting with the owner of the residence. He was informed he had 14 days to clear the pool to prevent possible mosquito breeding and address the issue of rodents on his property.”
She said on 1 September the municipality followed up on the initial inspection and found that the pool had been cleared, the property owner had poisoned the rodents and the property owner was in the process of clearing way the refuse.
