Hospital hosts pupils on World Trauma Day

Local primary school pupils were treated to a fun and informative event held at King Edward VIII hopsital to commemorate World Trauma Day on 17 October and highlight October's status as World Trauma Awareness Month.

THE Department of Health held an awareness campaign commemorating World Trauma Day at King Edward VIII hospital last week.

October is both breast cancer awareness month and world trauma awareness month with World Trauma Day on 17 October.

Nontobeko Ndlela, PRO at the hospital said learners from Durban Primary School and Port Natal School were invited to be part of the awareness day. “Trauma situations such as dog bites, burns and road safety, were presented to the learners by EMS staff and there was also a talk by the helicopter crew. One of the reason for inviting learners is because they often become victims of these traumas, especially now that we are approaching festive season with fire-crackers,” Ndlela added.

Air Mercy Services Helicopter pilot, Charmaine van Wyk, paramedics, V. Bridjbal and A. Sadapal, and Dr S.A. Moodley, Clinical Manager of the Trauma Unit at King Edward VIII Hospital, treated children from Durban Primary School, Mfundo Khanyile, Awenda Lembede, and Melissa Mavie, to a fun and informative event held at the hospital to commemorate World Trauma Day.
