UMBILO SAPS hosted an awareness event at Davenport Square last Friday as part of the 16 Days of Activism Campaign against abuse of women and children.
Officers from Umbilo police station handed out pamphlets on domestic violence and what women can do to protect themselves if they are in abusive relationships, where they can go to get help, and on what the police will do to assist in domestic violence cases.
Heather Rorick, chair of the Umbilo CPF spoke at the event, and entertainment was provided by Monique Zulu.

Ward councillor Mmabatho Tembe was also presented with a gift from the station to show their appreciation for her leadership and work in the community.
“Our event was held to acknowledge our compassion for women and children already exposed to domestic violence and abuse,” said Col John Romer, Umbilo station commander.
