Infant found in Durban dustbin

Police said the infant was found in a dustbin on Boscombe Place in Durban.

TO help solve a case of child abandonment, the Durban Central Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit have called on the public to help find the relatives or parents of the infant.

According to police spokesperson for Durban Central SAPS, Captain Muzi Maphumulo, the baby was found abandoned in a dustbin on Boscombe Place in Durban.

The social worker from Child Welfare, Durban, Nontuthuko Zondi, said, “The baby is doing very well and is healthy, however, we are in the process of getting the right people to adopt her.”

Zondi said there are options available to women who are pregnant and do not want their babies.

“Instead of killing the child or abandoning them, they can report to the hospital that she is giving the child up for adoption. They will then put them in touch with a social worker at that hospital. They can also contact us, or come to our offices as well at Child Welfare, Durban in Greyville for advice,” said Zondi.

To assist with the case, contact the investigating officer, Detective Constable Dludla, on 0613754876 or call Crime Stop on 08600 10111. Contact Child Welfare, Durban on 031 312 931.
