Berea SAPS captain says false reports will not be tolerated

Berea SAPS Captain Poobalan Naidoo says there has been an influx of false cases being reported to the police.

CAPTAIN Poobalan Naidoo of the Berea SAPS said there has been an influx of false cases being reported to the police.

“The reporting of false cases is taken very seriously, and persecutors will be punished if caught out. They will be charged and prosecuted with the full arm of the law. Recently, we have been receiving cases that need clarification because the facts of the cases look unlikely. When a case is reported, a lot of effort, resources and manpower are used to try and solve the case. We urge the perpetrators of this offence to remember that these resources could be used to solve a genuine case,” said Naidoo.

Festive season safety tips

Naidoo says that residents must also remain vigilant throughout the festive season.

“As we are approaching the year end, everyone is in a party mood. Always be vigilant when out and about, and try not to indulge in excessive alcohol. Protect your belongings, and do not drink and drive, but rather use a metered taxi or someone to drop and fetch you later.

“Try not to let strangers hug you – sometimes criminals can confuse you and pretend to know you, and they hug you, then steal your property, so be careful of this. Also, when partying, be careful not to leave your drinks unattended as they could be spiked. Take heed and stay alert,” said the police captain.
