Support pensioners at the Bartle House Winter Market

Allen Lukan, Bartle House’s executive officer, is urging the community, the business sector and individuals to lend a hand at the Bartle House Winter Market set to take pace on July 6.

FOLLOWING its resounding success in November 2023, Bartle House is once again hosting its Market Day this winter. The Bartle House Winter Market promises to be a day of fun, business and networking, happening right on their premises.

Allen Lukan, Bartle House’s executive officer, is urging the community, the business sector and individuals to lend a hand. “The House is in dire need of financial support, and through the market day, we hope to raise enough funds for the daily upkeep and maintenance of the facility. Our residents are pensioners and have no alternative income, therefore, we ask for support,” he said.

He mentioned that the event will not only raise funds but will provide a much-needed exposure for local food, clothing and crafts vendors. More than thirty stalls will be made available. Donations are welcome in the form of second-hand clothing and furniture, voluntary assistance and team support.

“Bartle House also aims to become a visible player in the community instead of operating independently. It’s about social footprint and promotion, too,” added Lukan.

The Bartle House Winer Market will be held at 300 Bartle Road (own premises) on July 6 from 09:00 to 14:00.

Bartle House is a non-profit organisation. It currently accommodates 92 male and female pensioners. The home was founded in the 1800s by Jonathon Peel under the name of ‘The Durban Homes for Men’ and has been serving the community for over 100 years.
